Position Description

This professional position works with our farmer-members, known as cooperators, on a yearlong basis. They provide knowledge and educate cooperators on important topics, such as financial analysis, business planning, managing a farm operation, tax planning and preparation. Farm Business Consultants (Field Staff) focus on serving Illinois farmers with their short- and long-term business success. This position is located in the Camp Point, IL multi-staff office and works with farmers in Adams, Pike, Hancock & Brown counties.

Duties:
• Build and maintain relationships with cooperators.
• Make farm visits to cooperators to acquire the necessary information to get an accurate and complete record of the farm business.
• Interpret and deliver financial analysis as well as educate the cooperators on good management practices and understanding their risk tolerance.
• Assist with income tax planning and preparation.
• Analyze needs of the cooperators and counsel on special topics, such as farm succession planning, estate planning, and forward-looking financial statements.
• Research and keep up-to-date with relevant developments in agriculture, tax, and business management.
• Market and promote FBFM services to potential cooperators who could benefit from the program.
• Collaborate with other professionals including other FBFM Staff, lenders, attorneys, and university specialists.
• Participate in continuing education efforts to maintain a high level of proficiency in technical subject matter areas relating to the professional responsibilities.
• Schedule tasks accordingly to meet deadlines.
• Communicate confidently with members and the ag community through outreach programs.
• Innovate & adopt new technologies & processes to improve efficiency and program quality.

Required Qualifications, Skills & Attributes of a
Successful Candidate:
• Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Education, Accounting, Business, Finance or a related-field.
• Agriculture/Farming background or a working knowledge of farm operations, the ag industry, and accounting/finance principles.
• Enrolled Agent or CPA license preferred.
• Effective utilization of computer technology, software and applications.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Outstanding organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving and analytical skills.
• High expectations for success.
• Strong ability to work in a fast paced, growth oriented, multi staff office environment.
• A self-starter who can manage time wisely and work under limited supervision.
• Self discipline to work independently and flexibility to work as part of a team.
• The desire to work with farm families on business and tax matters.
• Ability to handle a heavy work load from November through April.
• Willingness to live in the cooperator service area.
